Okoli Scores First EPL Goal as Van Nistelrooy Hails His Passion

Leicester City centre-back Caleb Okoli opened his Premier League goal account with a powerful header in the 74th minute to secure a 2-2 draw against Brighton at the Amex Stadium. The 23 year old Italian-Nigerian defender converted a well delivered free kick from Bilal El Khannouss to equalise after Leicester had twice fallen behind.



João Pedro struck twice from the penalty spot for Brighton, while Stephy Mavididi netted for the Foxes. Okoli's goal marked a milestone in his career, coming after 1,447 minutes across 22 league matches.



Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy praised Okoli’s commitment and the emotional spark he ignited among the travelling fans. "It was a great ball in and a very good finish by Caleb. He showed his passion also in how much he cares about this club," van Nistelrooy said. "That passion quickly transferred to the away end. They carried us through the second half."



Okoli, born in Vicenza to Nigerian parents, remains eligible to represent Nigeria internationally. Though capped at youth level for Italy, he is yet to make a senior appearance and has been an unused substitute in six UEFA Nations League games.
