Ekong Aims for 2025 AFCON Win, 2026 World Cup Spot for Super Eagles

William Ekong, the stand in captain for the Super Eagles, has articulated his vision for the team's future, setting two significant objectives winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations AFCON and securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup. His declaration comes after Nigeria's near success at the 2023 AFCON, where Ekong's remarkable performance earned him the MVP title despite the team's ultimate loss in the final in Côte d'Ivoire.

In an interview with Eagle7fm, Ekong expressed confidence in the team's potential for the upcoming tournaments. We can do better in Morocco than we did in Abidjan. At the last AFCON, we got the right balance of experience and youth, and I believe we can build on this, he stated. He highlighted the blend of seasoned players like Ahmed Musa and Kenneth Omeruo, along with emerging talents such as Victor Osimhen and Wilfred Ndidi, as key components of the team's strength.

Ekong also pointed to the depth of talent within Nigeria, citing players like Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella, who are poised to make significant contributions to the national team. The talent in Nigeria is endless. We have not touched the ceiling yet; we will be ready for the next AFCON, he added.

Reflecting on his ambitions, Ekong expressed a deep motivation to contribute to Nigeria's football legacy. I have the experience and feel physically good.
