Ex-AC Milan Gk Coach Backs Okoye’s Return After Betting Ban

Maduka Okoye is set to reclaim his place in Udinese’s lineup now that his two-month suspension for betting offences has ended, All Nigeria Soccer reports.

Luigi Turci, former AC Milan goalkeeping coach, has publicly expressed confidence in Okoye’s return, telling Messaggero Veneto that the Nigerian international is poised to re-enter with renewed drive.

"I believe we will see a new man. He will want to regain credibility with everyone around him," Turci said. "He may lack match rhythm initially, but he will compensate with enthusiasm and attention."

Turci also noted that Udinese’s coach, Runjaic, has long placed his faith in Okoye. He observed that substitute keeper Sava "has not shone in his absence," and suggested that Okoye’s return would bring much-needed continuity between the posts.

He further commended Udinese’s investment in young talent, including emerging keeper Nunziante, whose progression has drawn interest from various clubs.

Okoye’s career has been a study in resilience. After a challenging spell with Watford, he revived his fortunes in Italy, joining Udinese in the summer of 2023 and establishing himself as a standout performer. With his ban now lifted, he is expected to return immediately to Udinese’s starting XI for their first Serie A match following the international break.

Editorial

Maduka Okoye’s return to Udinese is more than a reinstatement it is a crucible. In the modern game, where reputation is both fragile and fiercely policed, the path back demands more than ability it demands humility, consistency, and the re-earning of trust.

There is no denying the magnitude of the challenge. A betting suspension stains the psyche of both player and public. The scrutiny he faces is magnified not simply by opposing fans, but by teammates, coaches, and the wider footballing community.
