López Joins Barcelona for Champions League Semis

Vicky López, a Super Falcons eligible striker, is poised to join Barcelona's squad for their upcoming UEFA Women's Champions League semifinal clash against Chelsea. The 17 year old has been included in the 22 player squad traveling to London for the Saturday evening match, with expectations high that she will make the final lineup.

López, who has already appeared in eight Champions League matches this season, totalling 104 minutes, played a part in the first leg against Chelsea. She came on as a substitute at the 73 minute mark, as Barcelona sought an equalizer at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. Despite her efforts and those of her teammates, Barcelona suffered a 1-0 defeat, ending their impressive five year unbeaten home streak in European competitions.

Additionally, another young player of Nigerian descent, Ashanti Akpan, might join the Chelsea squad for the match, having been seen training with the first team under manager Emma Hayes. This inclusion comes in the wake of Barcelona's previous victory in the 2021 final, where they defeated Chelsea 4-0, a match that featured African football legend Asisat Oshoala.
