Elegbeleye Explains Creation of NPFL Youth League
Gbenga Elegbeleye, the Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL Chairman and 2nd Vice Chairman of the NFF has outlined the reasons behind the establishment of the NPFL Youth League. The initiative aims to enhance the financial stability of league clubs and foster the integration of young talents into senior teams.
The project is designed to improve the financial base of various league clubs over the long term. It provides a pathway for the progression of young talents into senior teams. Plans are in place for the NPFL All Star Team to tour Spain, giving players the opportunity to experience top youth development programs.
Thirty players from the inaugural NPFL Youth League are participating in a two week camp in Abuja. The U17 project encourages all NPFL clubs to invest in youth development through feeder teams, eventually integrating these players into the main teams.
Elegbeleye acknowledged Nigeria's failure to qualify for the last U17 World Cup, attributing it to poor planning. The U17 All Star team aims to expose players to better training and global standards, with European leagues showing interest in young talents.
The NPFL Youth League is a strategic initiative to boost financial stability and nurture young talents, providing them with pathways to professional development and international exposure.
