  Do NOT use caramelized or flavoured coffee beansBe aware there are warnings in the manual (only available online)Bought the Philips Baristina Espresso Machine on Black Friday for $299 CAD after my Nespresso Pop broke down.Good:- Brew faster, quieter than Nespresso (grind + brew time incl.)- Freedom to use my beans of choice, Nespresso can never reach this freshness- So F-ing easy to use and not as bulky as other fully automated espresso machines (~1/3 price too)- Rubber seal for bean hopper is nice touch (not air-tight)Bad:- Grind weight and fineness are not customizable, each puck weighs about 6 to 9 grams (without boost), and around 9 to 12 grams (when boosted). Judging by the pucks, the grounds are coarse and a bit uneven.Considerations:- Many leakages reported, I suspect it is due to stuck coffee ground breaking the seal- No comments on taste, I believe it depends on coffee type, ground coarseness, pressure, temperature, etc., this machine is only designed to make brewing coffee more easily for lazy bones like meTo be updated in a few months

  From Crema to Trauma: My Espresso Drama

  I really wanted this espresso maker to be a winner. Things started out great—I loved the simplicity, and the coffee was consistently decent with a nice crema despite the non-adjustable grind size.But about four months in, the problems began. The machine started overflowing water from the portafilter, stopped producing proper espresso, and the grounds turned into a sludgy suspension instead of forming a puck.That led me into a warranty claim with Philips, and this is where the 1-star rating comes from. The customer service experience has been extremely frustrating. The agents are friendly, but they repeatedly promised call-backs that never happened. I’ve now contacted them at least six times, and only after persistent follow-up do I finally have a scheduled call to arrange a refund—since the machine apparently can’t be repaired due to a lack of parts or replacements.

  Reasonable cup of coffee

  Wanted a coffee machine better than drip, but also didn’t want to spend 2k on a big fancy one. This fit the middle ground. The machine works great (have had it 8 months) and makes a pretty reasonable cup of espresso. We heat up milk and froth it in the microwave for lattes. You can adjust the volume per cup if you google and find the user manual. If you don’t, you’ll just get Italian volume of coffee. I think we’ve used it enough that when/if it breaks we can upgrade to the bigger one. But it’s a perfect in between for now. Doesn’t take up too much space and looks nice enough to keep out.

  Débordement du porte-filtre

  J’ai acheté cette Philips Baristina il y a presqu’un an et, malheureusement, elle est devenue défectueuse depuis environ trois. Depuis, la pression de l’eau est beaucoup trop forte. À chaque café, l’eau déborde du porte-filtre et de la tasse, ce qui crée des dégâts d’eau sur le comptoir et rend la machine pratiquement inutilisable.J’ai pourtant tout essayé avant d’écrire cet avis. J’ai nettoyé complètement la machine, effectué les cycles de nettoyage recommandés, vérifié que rien n’était obstrué et même fait une réinitialisation (reset) selon les instructions. Malgré tout, le problème persiste et la machine continue de déborder à chaque utilisation.Je suis très déçu, car j’avais choisi cette machine en raison de la réputation de Philips et je m’attendais à un produit fiable. Lorsqu’elle fonctionnait correctement, le café était excellent, mais un appareil de ce prix ne devrait pas tomber en panne en même pas un an. Dan son état actuel, je ne peux malheureusement pas recommander ce produit.

I never use them, and they often become a maintenance headache if left sitting idle.After seeing a friend’s high-end Philips machine, I did some digging and found this model at a sub-$300 price point. The math was simple—the machine pays for itself in just a few months through the savings on pods alone.One of the highlights for me is actually the limited set of options. I was looking for a machine that was tried and true, and this one delivers exactly what I want: short or long espresso in single or double quantities, without the need to fiddle with bean adjustments or complex settings. I appreciate that the manufacturer has figured out how to make a great cup of coffee so I don’t have to. For some, this might seem picky, but I enjoy the lack of customization features; to me, more features just mean more things that can go wrong. I prefer the simplicity of this design and hope that it translates into long-lasting reliability.The coffee isn't exactly like Nespresso; it’s different, but I would argue it is equally as good. I finally get that long espresso with a generous crema that I love, without the guilt of aluminum waste. Plus, I now have the freedom to support local coffee roasters and experiment with freshly roasted beans.Interestingly, the version with the wooden handle was priced lower than the all-white model when I purchased.   Disappointing experience despite promising design

  I was really looking forward to trying the Baristina. The design seemed well thought-out — compact, sleek, and marketed as a clean, automated way to make espresso. As someone who previously owned a traditional espresso machine but gave it up due to space constraints, the Baristina’s small footprint was a major selling point.Unfortunately, the experience fell far short. The machine struggles to properly capture and grind whole beans, and even when it does, the espresso comes out watery — even when using the strongest setting. There also appears to be a slight leak in the espresso bean holder, which might indicate that my unit is defective.Either way, this was a major disappointment and I’m returning it. Based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend the Baristina.

  UpdateI love everything about this machine except that it only works for less than one year. Luckily we contacted the manufacturer and they are able to send us a replacement.If you purchase this machine, you may have to purchase the 3-year protection plan.***********I love this machine. Not only it looks beautiful on the countertop, it’s very easy to use and makes decent coffee. Some other people complain about the plastic taste but I think it’s just fine. We used to have another espresso machine which gave out lot of steam and high pitch sound. This one is quiet, no steam coming out, and very easy to clean. The coffee ground came out smoothly without having to scrap it out. Sometimes I make two coffee in the morning. So I can totally get my money worth in a short time. The whole process is automatic. I love it so much that I just ordered the milk frother which has good reviews too. Philips is a good brand. We have the air fryer for a few years now and it is still working well.
